How to Calculate Average in Excel

There are multiple ways to calculate the average in Excel, including using the AVERAGE function, the SUM function, or the AutoSum button. You can also use the COUNT function to find the number of cells that contain numbers and then divide the sum by the count. Here's how you can use each of these methods:

Using the AVERAGE Function

  1. Select the cells you want to average.
  2. Click the Formulas tab on the ribbon.
  3. In the Function Library group, click the AVERAGE function.
  4. Excel will insert the AVERAGE function into the cell with the syntax =AVERAGE(number1,number2,...).
  5. Enter the numbers or click the cells you want to include in the average.
