How to Go to the Next Line in Excel

When working in Microsoft Excel, you may encounter situations where entering text into a cell extends beyond the visible area. To address this and make your information more organized, you can use the "Alt+Enter" keyboard shortcut to go to the next line within a cell.

Why Use This Feature?

  • Time-Saving: Instead of creating a new cell for each line, you can keep typing, and Excel will automatically create line breaks.
  • Improved Readability: Breaking up information into multiple lines can make it easier to read and locate specific details.

How to Use It

  1. Select the Cell: Click on the cell where you want to add a new line.
  2. Press Alt+Enter: While the cell is selected, press the "Alt" key on your keyboard and, while holding it down, press "Enter."

You can repeat this process to add more lines within the same cell. When you're finished, press "Enter" to exit the cell.

Note

  • This feature works only with text cells and not with cells containing numbers or formulas.

Final Thoughts

This simple yet valuable feature can enhance your efficiency and formatting when working with text in Excel. The next time you need to start a new line in a cell, remember to use "Alt+Enter"!
