Secure AI use in finance is not about banning tools. It is about defining approved environments, data boundaries, and review rules before usage scales on its own.

Most finance teams do not need a blanket ban on generative AI. They need a clear operating policy for where tools like ChatGPT and Claude are appropriate, what data can be used, what environment is approved, and where human review remains mandatory.

The security risk is rarely “someone used AI.”

The real risk is that finance teams use AI without a clear boundary between safe workflow support and unsafe data handling.

Tier 3. Restricted and high-sensitivity workflows

This model is more useful than a vague “be careful” statement.
